This horse has a
large triangular fracture fragment visible just below the patellar. Careful
examination clearly shows a darkened triangular area in the base of the
patellar – this is the fracture bed. This occurred as a result of the horse
hitting a fence with its stifle during a three day event. This caused massive
haemorrhage in the stifle. Once the acute bleeding had resolved the fragment
was removed at Pool House equine Clinic by arthroscopic surgery.

This large
hunter was kicked immediately below the stifle resulting in a fracture of
the tibial crest. Surgery was required to remove
the large avulsed fragment.
