Fractured pedal bone X-rays
|
Fortunately fractured pedal bones are relatively uncommon – the pedal bone
is protected and encased within the hoof. In this case the horse has
sustained a massive pedal bone fracture. Unfortunately this fracture extends
into the coffin (P2 – P3) joint. |

Digital radiography enables us to look at a reversed (Polaroid) image.
This often illustrates fine fracture lines more clearly than the conventional view (see arrows).

When X raying for a suspect pedal bone fracture it is important to take a number of different ‘views’.
This lateral X Ray is the same horse as above – it is very difficult to see any evidence of a fracture.
