Richard Jones

Richard Stephenson

Richard is responsible for the day to day management of the Equine Practice. He holds the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons Certificate in Veterinary Radiology, and is particularly interested in ultrasound and diagnostic imaging. He has also been awarded the R.C.V.S. Certificate in Equine Practice, the fourth veterinary surgeon to obtain this award whilst working at Pool House. Richard is a veterinary examiner for the Worshipful Company of Farriers, and has recently been appointed as an examiner in Equine Practice by the R.C.V.S.

He is also the author of this Web Site.

Gil Riley

Gil is jointly responsible for the management of the Equine Practice with Richard Stephenson, and has particular responsibility for Staff training and development. He joined the practice to expand his equine skills after working in a mainly agricultural practice in Wales.Gil has subsequently been awarded the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons Certificate in Equine Practice, the fifth vet to obtain this qualification whilst working at Pool House. Gil is particularly interested in lameness and laminitis. He has recently acted as British Team Vet at the International Driving Trials in Germany. He is an official JMB measurer. Outside of work he is an enthusiastic musician and supports Liverpool football club.

Everyone at Pool House was delighted when Gil's baby daughter Olivia Jane was born on 29th May 2006 weighing in at 6 lbs 14 ozs. Both mother (Emma) and baby are doing well. Olivia has already become a regular visitor to the equine clinic.

Hugh Davies

Although retired from the Practice, Hugh Davies continues to be our Honorary Consultant.

Hugh has been interested in Equine work throughout his career, and has been largely responsible for building up this aspect of the work of the practice. During this time he has amassed considerable experience in this field, and is frequently consulted by insurance companies and other practices. He is an examiner for the Worshipful Company of Farriers, is a member of the J.M.B. measurement panel, and also undertakes Riding School inspections.

All the staff at Pool House were delighted when Hugh was awarded the MBE in the Queen's New Years Honours list (2002) for services to the veterinary profession in Staffordshire.

Patrick MacAndrew

Pictured here using an endoscope to examine the upper respiratory tract of a horse with a nasal discharge, Patrick has been with the practice for a year. Having previously worked in mixed and small animal practices he has a wide range of experience. Outside of work he is an enthusiastic rugby player.

Jonathon Withers

Jonathon has worked within the practice for the last three years, originally from Northern Ireland, he studied at Glasgow University. He is the fourth member of our dedicated Equine team. He is especially interested in Equine dentistry and Sports Horse medicine and injuries. He is currently studying for the Certificate in Equine Practice and hopes to become the sixth vet from Pool house to obtain this qualification. In 2004 he will be attending the BEVA advanced dental techniques course and is travelling to Germany for training in Arthroscopic techniques.

He is a keep fit fanatic, regularly running in marathons.

Noelle Lowry

Noelle joined Pool House Equine Clinic in 2005. Previously she had gained Equine experience whilst working in mixed practice in Wales. She runs the stud medicine side of our practice. During the season we receive mares for AI with both chilled and frozen semen. Interest in AI is expanding growing rapidly almost doubling over the last two seasons. Noelle will be going to Australia for their stud season to work with embryo transfer - hopefully we will be able to introduce an ET service next year at Crown Inn farm. Noelle is a council member of the Society of Practising Veterinary Surgeon.

Richard Shuttleworth

Joined Pool House Equine Clinic in 2004 after two years in mixed practice. In 2007 he obtained the RCVS Certificate in Equine Practice (Cert EP) . He is pictured here administering a course of extra corporeal shock wave therapy to a mare with a sore back. This is an extremely useful treatment for back injuries as well as some areas previously found to be difficult to treat such as the upper third of the suspensory ligament.

Andrew Wallace

Graduated from Edinburgh University having previously obtained a degree in agriculture. He joined Pool House after a brief spell working for the Society for the Protection of Animals Abroad in Morocco. Whilst in Morocco he worked with many hard working donkeys and horses often lacking in the most basic of veterinary care.

Andrew is a keen triathlon competitor and has recently taken part in a charity-swimming marathon.

Georgina Parkin

Although she is a native of Derbyshire Georgina graduated from the University of Melbourne Australia with a first class honours degree in veterinary medicine. She joined the Pool House Equine Clinic team having first spent two years working in a mixed practice in Derbyshire. Georgina was awarded the RCVS Certificate of Equine Practice in 2007 and has a keen interest in lameness, equine biomechanics and dentistry. In her free time, Georgina enjoys riding, socializing and playing badminton and squash.

Manuel Lamas

Manuel joined the practice in April 2006. He is Portuguese, but worked mainly in Ireland before joining Pool House Equine Clinic. Manuel was brought up with horses on Marra stud in Grandola Portugal. He has competed in long distance riding competitions up to 100km. After graduation he was a junior intern at the renowned Troytown Equine Hospital, after which he worked as an equine assistant for the Tower Equine Hospital in Cork, Ireland. His special areas of interest are equine dentistry, stud medicine and fertility and sport horse medicine. Outside of work Manuel is a football fan and is an active supporter of Benfica.
